Maxine Powell's remarkable and historic Detroit story was developing in the early 1950's after she purchased the Ferry Center to establish a finishing school.  The Maxine Powell Finishing and Modeling School introduced the first Black professional models to the automobile industry.  She also produced and directed sold-out social events at the Ferry Center, Detroit's premier hotels, and the city's major banquet venues.

After Motown, Maxine brought her expertise to Wayne County Community College teaching thousands of students 'personal development' for over 13 years.  As a private instructor, she worked with the first Black woman who won the Miss USA title, Carole Anne-Marie Gist.
